Donated By CSM(Ret) Tommie Schulz
About the Carver: CSM Tommie Schulz, served for 35 years in the U.S. Army earning many awards and decorations. After being Injured in Iraq in a hard landing in a Chinook Helicopter, CSM Schulz spent 2 years in the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Bragg, NC undergoing surgeries and rehabilitation. During this time a local volunteer, Mr. Cam Easton, taught several of the Soldiers the art of wood carving. Mr. Easton and CSM Schulz became good friends and remain so to this day. CSM Schulz was medically retired from the Army and has continued her medical rehabilitation as well as her wood carving skills.
About the Wood: Diamond Willow is a relatively rare type of wood only being found in parts of Minnesota and Alaska. Each piece is unique with the knots formed in various patterns. With no two sticks being the same, the carver faces the challenge of turning the raw material into a working piece of art.
This Diamond Willow Walking Stick features a Compass recessed into the top to the stick, A Seal of the United States of America inlaid into the upper portion and the Iconic Rocky Mountain Elk inlaid farther down the stick. A Leather lanyard is secured with a Silver concho.
