"Sinker Cypress" logs are old growth logs that were lost when the Cypress Logging Industry was logging the virgin stands of cypress timber from Louisiana swamps. This was sometime between ~1900 and ~1935. Occasionally logs would be more dense than water and would fall out of the log rafts that were being towed to the sawmill. The very close grain of the rings is indicative of old growth cypress The "SinKers" would lay on the bottom of bayous until someone would recover them and mill them into lumber. Many of these logs were hundreds, to over a thousand, years old when felled.
